Save Money on Treadmills by Avoiding These 5 Marketing Traps

There are lots of great marketing people in the treadmill industry today. Their job is to make you think that you need the features they’re offering when the truth is, you really don’t. So what happens is you’ll spend more money than what you’re supposed to.

This guide aims to educate you on what these marketing traps are and why you should avoid them. And as a result, you’ll be able to save money on treadmills you’ll be buying.

1) Extended Warranties

Some treadmill sellers will offer extended warranties on their treadmills. If this is the case, I suggest you decline. Most quality treadmill companies cover their product long enough that there’s really no need for any extensions. Besides, this option would just cause you more headaches due to some dishonest warranty companies.

2) Program Choices

Another way to save money on treadmills is by choosing a machine with only a few built-in workout programs. Most people don’t really use these programs and if they do, they more often than not stick to just 1 or 2 programs. So buying a treadmill with tons of programmed workouts would be a total waste of money.

3) Heart Rate Straps

Since working out in your target heart rate offers numerous benefits, treadmill companies nowadays offer heart rate straps for an extra fee. If this was offered to you, always say “no”. Heart rate straps are very uncomfortable when running. So you’ll probably just try it once and never use it again.

A better way to workout in your target heart rate zone is through the use of heart rate/pulse handgrips. It is more comfortable to use and is already included in most treadmills, no need to pay extra.

4) Folding Feature

Although I do admit it does save space at home, but after a long grueling workout, some people may no longer want to fold and move the treadmill, only to unfold and move it back again the next day. So just save your money and buy a non-folding treadmill.

5) Running Belt

Treadmill companies would try to impress you with large running spaces and overly thick belts. Truth is… the larger the belt, the harder the motor has to work to keep the belt moving. And thick belts tend to hold additional heat which decreases the belt life. So don’t be lured by impressive belt sizes. Just choose a belt that you can comfortably run on and nothing more. The standard 18″x 52″ belt is enough for most runners.

Those are the ways you can save money on treadmills. Hopefully, you found it enlightening and would use it to avoid some, if not all, of these marketing traps.

Weight Loss: FAQ

Copyright 2006 Adam Waxler

As my weight loss web sites gain more popularity, I find myself
answering more and more emails with questions about various
weight loss programs and other diet tips. I have noticed that
many of these questions about weight loss are very similar to
one another. Therefore, I have put together a list of the ten
most frequently asked questions about diets and weight loss

1. What is the best diet plan or weight loss program? My answer
to this is simple…any diet that provides all the nutrition
that you need for health, and in addition, provides fewer
calories than your body burns. While this may not be the answer
you wanted to hear, the fact is there is no one weight loss
program that is best for everyone, you must research the various
weight loss plans and find the one that is best for you. Just
make sure your diet is a healthy diet.

2. How much should I weigh? Your doctor can answer that question
most accurately. More important than how much you weigh is your
body mass index (bmi), which measures your height against your
weight. There are plenty of free bmi calculators all over the
internet.

3. How can I keep off the weight that I lose? The best way to
lose weight is gradually. Most weight loss experts would agree
that 1-2 pounds per week is the best rate to lose weight. If you
lose weight gradually and re-educate both yourself and your body
about food, you’ll have a good start. The secret to keeping
weight off is to balance your energy needs with your food
intake. Eat enough calories to supply your body’s energy needs,
but not so many that your body stores the excess as fat.

4. What is the connection between obesity and diabetes? Obesity
increases the risks of a number of chronic health conditions,
and diabetes is one of them. People who are more than ten
percent overweight increase their risk of developing type 2
diabetes substantially.

5. How do I decrease my intake of sugar? Obviously, you can
decrease your intake of sugar by cutting out sweets and refined
snacks, but you should also watch out for ‘hidden’ sugars. Check
ingredients. High fructose corn syrup and sucrose are both
simple sugars that add lots of calories and little nutrition.

6. How often should I weigh myself? Most diet experts recommend
that you weigh yourself no more than once a week. Some go so far
as to tell you to throw out the scale entirely! Personally, I
think that people who are trying to lose weight should focus
less on what they weigh. Yes, I know that sounds strange, but
people who are trying to lose weight should focus on how they
look and feel more than how much they weight. A more accurate
measure of your weight loss is your clothing size. If your
clothing is feeling looser, you’re doing great.

7. Do I really have to exercise? YES! The truth is it will be a
lot harder to lose weight if you do not exercise. A half hour of
moderate exercise daily is the minimum activity level for
healthy weight loss. You can get it walking, running, cleaning
your house - anything active burns calories.

8. What’s a calorie? A calorie is a measure of energy. Foods are
rated with calories based on the amount of energy they provide
to the body when consumed.

9. Can I lose weight without changing my diet? The best weight
loss results happen when you burn more calories than you
consume. If you only need to lose a small amount of weight and
your diet is generally healthy, you can lose weight by
increasing your activity level to burn more calories. If your
diet is poor, or if you’re more than a few pounds overweight,
you really need to learn a new, more healthy way of eating, or
you’ll put the weight back on when you go back to ‘normal’
eating.

10. What are the best all around diet foods? The diet foods
mentioned below are five of the best diet foods that should be
included as part of any weight loss program and diet plan. 1.
Whole Grain Breads 2. Fish 3. Spinach 4. Olive Oil 5. Pink
Grapefruit

What to Look for When Shopping for an Elliptical Trainer

When shopping for an elliptical trainer, it can be confusing to know which brands are the best. The best elliptical trainers contain a number a features and functions and are available in a wide price range depending on your individual needs. Elliptical trainers are manufactured by the top names in fitness equipment and by lesser-known companies. Finding the best elliptical trainer will depend on the intensity and frequency in which you plan to use your elliptical trainer and your budget.

It is important to know what features you will need and which extras will be of no use to you. Before visiting a web site or retailer, you should determine the type of elliptical trainer you require and which features will be the most important to you. The best elliptical trainers will include dual action bars, the ability to design a workout plan online or using the built in display, have adjustable resistance, and adjustable pedals.

Some fitness equipment manufacturers advertise their elliptical trainers to be the best available when in reality, they are of average construction and only moderately effective. A bit of research and price comparisons will give you an idea of what you can expect to spend for the type of features you desire and the reviews the machine has received from consumers.

Choosing the best elliptical trainer for you requires that you educate yourself on the various types available and determine what price range will fit into your budget. The goal in choosing an elliptical trainer is to find a quality piece of equipment that you will enjoy using. Compare prices and consumer ratings before you shop to give yourself the information you need to make an educated choice.

Is treadmill better or running on the roads?

Running on a treadmill is much easier as there is no wind force
blowing against you. Treadmills also have a propelling force,
which makes the foot come in front of the other. Walking or
jogging on treadmills is a boring job. On a road, you have to
change according to the surface and this helps in developing
many muscles and tendons in the body.

While running on roads, the surface is inclined or sloped and
there are potholes, grass, soft mud, hard surface etc. These
help in building different muscles. The main beneficial factor
while running outdoors is that the oxygen levels in the air is
high while indoors it is stuffy. Natural environment is the best
to jog and exercise as exercise is meant to be done outdoors.
Treadmills can be used as an alternate when the weather is not
good enough to jog outdoors. If you don’t have much time and you
are in a hurry, then you can workout on a treadmill. Treadmill
is an alternative to jogging but jogging outdoors is always the
best.
