Doing your own home hair color for the first time can be intimidating, to say the least. Have I chosen the right color? What if I make a mistake and wind up with green hair? What if I end up with overprocessed, dry damaged hair?

The fact is that you can achieve excellent results and save a lot of money by coloring your hair at home as long as you know a few basics about how to select the right color and apply it correctly.

Here are seven of the most common questions and my advice on hair coloring at home.

1.How do I know whether I should color my hair at home or go to a salon?

Most people can successfully color their hair at home but there are exceptions. You should get a professional color job if your hair is in poor condition - coloring dry damaged hair at home can result in uneven color. Also, if your hair has different shades and you want one even tone, a hairdresser can apply different formulas to the different areas. Finally, it’s best to leave it to the experts if you want to make a drastic change to your hair color, say dark brown to platinum blonde, or you want special color effects or highlights.

2.Are drugstore hair colors just as good as salon hair color products?

In general, salon hair colors contain higher-quality ingredients than the drugstore brands. Salons also offer a wider variety of colors and tones. But home coloring kits are getting better all the time and can deliver good results if used properly.

3.How do I pick a color that will look natural on me?

When choosing a hair color, your skin tone and natural hair color are the two most important factors. Whether you’re going lighter or darker, stay within two or three shades of your natural hair color. Here is a guideline for selecting a compatible hair color for your skin tone:

Dark/olive skin: Stay with darker hair colors. Yellow skin: Dark, rich colors like deep auburn. Pale skin: Almost any color. Pink skin: Neutral tones like sandy or beige blonde or chocolate brown are best. Avoid reds or golden tones.

If you know what clothing colors suit you, you can also use that to help in choosing hair color:

If you look good in warm shades like red, orange, golden yellow, cinnamon brown, olive green, and rust, then warm hair tones like golden blonde, golden brown, strawberry blonde, and auburn will suit you best.

Cool color favorites like bluish red, fuschia, black, royal blue, and pine green indicate that cool hair tones are best for you: platinum, ash blonde, ash brown, burgundy, and jet black.

If you look good in true red, purple, charcoal grey, periwinkle, and teal, then neutral tones like sandy or beige blonde, chocolate brown or mahogany will suit you.

4.How do I get ready to color my hair the first time?

It’s a good idea to gather a few materials together before starting: an old T-shirt, a few old towels and a washcloth that you don’t mind getting stained, some hair clips for sectioning your hair, a timer, and a hand mirror to see the back of your head. 5.If I color my hair at home and hate it, what can I do?

There are some home hair color products you can use to repair the damage, but it isn’t easy. Discuss a current event. Read up on the latest celebrity trial, natural disaster, or scientific breakthroughs, and you’ll always have something to say. In line at the grocery store, you can always comment on the magazine cover stories.

4.Ask Questions - You’re new in town, take advantage of it! Ask people where the best sports bar is, which museum to visit first, or where to find the perfect margarita, and you’ll get the ball rolling to meeting a new friend.

5.Compliment, compliment, compliment - You should never do this if it’s not sincere, but a compliment is always a great conversation starter. And, it starts the conversation on a positive note, so people are already responding favorably to you. Tell the waitress her shoes are great, compliment your neighbor’s car, let a clerk know she’s doing a great job.

How To Write EBay Auction Descriptions That Get Bids

The first thing you need to do is write an auction title.
This is the most important part of your auction. If your title doesn’t interest anyone no-one will read your ad.

You could have written the most compelling auction description ever written. But unless anyone reads it you’ll get no sales.

All professional ad writers agree that the title is 9x more important than the ad itself. Before you read a newspaper article, what’s the first thing you read?

That’s right. The headlines. Only when a headline interests you will you attempt to read the actual article.

The most effective way of coming up with the best title.
The best way is follow the 100-1 rule. First write 100 titles then pick the best one. Why?

Professional writers do this because 100 seems to exhaust all possible titles. You’ll find when you’ve finished that the best one jumps off the page at you.

Try it! It works. It takes time but nothing comes without effort. And the results will outweigh the work.

There is however a better way that I stumbled across. This method is used by one of the most successful writers on the web.

He simple asks a special question that just gets headlines flooding from your fingers. I must say, it works like magic. He always gets his headline in less than 5 minutes. And what’s more, always gets amazing results. Everytime!

Sorry I’m not going to reveal that question here, because I’ve included it in my best-selling ebook about ad writing. And it would result in less sales, because that would be one of the main reasons people are buying it. Amongst others.

How to write the auction description.
Your description is the part that needs to get the person to place a bid. So you better make sure it’s persuasive.

Just about everyone reads the first paragraph. If this doesn’t grab em, then they’ll quickly leave and look for other auctions.

The best first paragraph is always the one that grabs the imagination. When they read it they should see themselves with your item. A bit like the car salesman who gets you to sit in the vehicle.

Hopefully you’ve done a good job of that so now they begin reading the rest of your ad.

People want to see the benefits of owning your item. So you need to show all the benefits of having your offering.

You also need to present the benefits in a certain way. The best way I’ve found for presentation is shown in my book. It always gets the best response whenever I do this in my auctions.

If possible you should always use a photo. When people see what your offering they’re much more happy to buy.

So to summarise…

Get the auction title right. This is the most important part by far.

Use a powerful opening paragraph.

Present all the benefits of your item.

If possible use photos.

‘ Buyer BEWARE ‘

You may not be familiar with the title of this article, or indeed my writing style - but often they go ‘hand-in-hand’.

I use phrases or sayings to support my articles - as this often acts as a good starting point to drive home various key facts I am trying to emphasize to my readers.

The phrase or saying ‘Buyer beware’ has some legal background, but is more often linked to everyday life when trying to warn people against the perils of purchasing - that’s purchasing, often without good deliberation, consideration of facts - or sometimes just good old ‘commonsense’ (me included!)

Today’s fast pace World is all about ‘here and now ‘ getting things done today - action, not delays.

We are all part of it. We all want things immediately, we hate waiting, postponing, complications…..

Without this hyper-energetic lifestyle, there would be no need for fast-food, microwave ovens, email, cell phones, instant coffee, 500 TV / Cable channels, express elevators…….

But … that’s the World we live in, and the life we lead.

Who, more than anyone, has grasped this concept of high-energy, turbo-boosted lifestyles than…. the sales, business and marketing industry?

They are dominating virtually every aspect of our lives, often subliminal, subconsciously - but always effectively.

This drives the passion inside us, acting as the catalyst which results in our eagerness, need, often greed - to make impulse decisions, instantaneous purchases…. many of which are regrettable.

Hands up those of us who have never bought something on the spur of the moment, then later wished they hadn’t??

It’s not all our fault.

Whilst we must hold ourselves partly accountable, society too, but we mustn’t forget the experts all around us who are preying on our weaknesses - to make ‘that’ sale.

It’s all about…..

‘BUY NOW - Limited Stocks’. ‘ Sale Ends SOON’. ‘ Offer Won’t Last Long’. ‘ This Deal Closes Tomorrow’. ‘Price Goes Up At Midnight’. ‘Get It While You Still Can’. ‘One Day Sale’.

It’s all very clever marketing and sales techniques - nothing illegal (not usually), some might say not even immoral.

Here’s a little ‘hint’ about the morality of ’sales’……….

Where I live, I am constantly bombarded with Sales and Special Offers, just like many other countries.

I will see an advertisement offering me a 75% discount off the normal price of a set of dining room furniture.

Sounds good so far - that’s one hell of a saving - 75% off. This means I pay only one quarter the normal price.

However, and here’s the catch…….. the retailer, part of a large chain, has at some time in the past few months, at one of their outlets / stores (usually one of their smallest, and least popular) - placed a ‘higher than normal’ price on the items for a short period.

So - usual price in usual stores would be $2,000

But they applied a ’special’ price at a small, unpopular store of $3,500 - for the same items.

Advertise 75% OFF (but hidden in the small print they refer to the price at this ‘one’ store, where the item was on sale there for a few days.

SO - here’s the bottom line.

If it REALLY was 75% off - the ‘usual’ price of $2,000 - you would pay just $500

However, as they are using this special price from just one of their outlets, you pay 75% off this ‘adjusted’ price of $3,500 - which is $875…. So you are in fact, paying much more than what the real discount should be.

This is not illegal. This is exploitation of a loophole. And people just like you and me fall for this every day.

Many of us will buy because of the discount, the special offer, the sale price - and have less regard for the product itself.

NOTE - businesses very, VERY rarely sell items for LESS than they cost. So Sale Prices still mean they make a profit - albeit a reduced profit.

Often our impulse purchases of special offers and discounts, are made without a second thought regarding the terms, conditions, exemptions, exclusions, and guarantees (if any) that apply.

Here is another, very quick example, of how we can be exploited. Mail Order companies, just like any other business have sales and special offers.

But not all of them allow free returns of goods if you change your mind.

This means that if you have decided not to keep the product, then YOU have to pay from your pocket, the cost of returning the item.

This itself is a factor which is off-putting to many, and deters people from returning goods. This results in lower returns, lower refunds for some Mail Order companies (and more profit).

The internet for example, is jam-packed with special offers, limited time sales etc. It’s is one of the most popular forms of internet marketing strategies which ‘force’ (persuasive encouragement) people BUY NOW.

And it works!

You simply don’t want to be left out……. To be the one who missed an opportunity…… so out comes that credit card and BANG! You’ve done it!

Often, following this very short period of adrenalin-driven hyperactivity, follows a prolonged period of remorse and regret.

“Why the hell did I buy that?”

Sometimes we quickly try to claim a refund - but often we don’t. We may have some small nagging doubts inside, but we put them to one side and cross our fingers.

It’s only later, when we realise that the sale was ‘hyper-hyped’ - and the product may have been over-sold and in the cold light of day, under-delivered - we really start to have our misgivings.

Often, it’s too late by this stage. The offer has closed, the refund period *(if any) has expired. The product didn’t live up to our expectations, the car doesn’t have an engine, the video we bought was Betamax, the software was too hard to use, the book was written in a reading style for those studying Quantum Mechanics, there is no support, I didn’t read the small print……..

The last part is vital.

If you really MUST have it - then check, read, understand and know the terms. Don’t spend $200 on software only to find it doesn’t come with installation instructions, a manual or support.

Check it out FIRST.

If you are SO pushed for time, that the special offer / sale ends in two minutes - and you haven’t got the time to read the terms,…… do you really need it THAT MUCH?

If you have doubts - or questions, then ASK FIRST! If the seller wants to make the sale, they will be happy to help you. If they’re obstructive - walk away.

Is ANY purchase really THAT important that you MUST buy it NOW?

Unless you are buying food for your family…. I doubt it.

Can you afford to burn money? Or do you just buy things for the hell of it?

Make sure you KNOW what you are getting, what the limitations are, and if you get any support.

So….. Buyer Beware !!

Ever joined a dating site that stated 100% free to join only to
find that you were not given access to all of the sites
features? The issue of finding totally free online dating and
personals ads sites have been a difficult task since most users
find it difficult to determine which sites are actually free and
which are not. This issue has become very time consuming for
those seeking online member interaction and other sites that
offer real free full memberships.

Many online websites offer potential members a 100% free to join
membership without detailing the extent of the certain
membership offered. The theory here is sometimes clear in the

So, before you visit your next online dating site, you should
find out if its 100% free to join or does it have a 100% free
full membership offer then give it try!

Curious Sayings and Humorous English Expressions of the Pennsylvania Dutch

English as a World Language

English, with its growing number of varieties, pidgins and inflections, is now firmly established as a world language. It is currently spoken as a second or foreign language by more speakers than those who call it their first language. Now there are more than three non-native speakers of English for every native speaker and the number of non-native English speakers continues to grow on a daily basis. “There’s never before been a language that’s been spoken by more people as a second than a first”, said David Crystal, author of the book “English as a Global Language”. In the area where I grew up in south central Pennsylvania, there is an interesting variety of the English language spoken by the “Pennsylvania Dutch”.

One difficult aspect of the English speech in Dauphin, Lancaster and York counties located in south central Pennsylvania, where a large concentration of Amish, Mennonites and other “Pennsylvania Dutch” sects live is the manipulation of the grammar elements of English. Here are a few examples of the ways in which grammar and word order are managed in everyday Pennsylvania Dutch speech. For “Outlanders”, anyone who is not Pennsylvania Dutch, these expressions of everyday speech can range from amusing to startling. Here’s a look at just a few of the many aspects of this variety of English.

Convoluted Grammatical Forms

“Throw Papa down the stairs his hat.”
Explanation: Throw Papa’s hat down the stairs to him. (I don’t care how old he is, don’t you dare touch ole Papa!)

“Go out and tie the dog loose and don’t forget to outen the light.”

This expression uses convoluted grammar in addition to “Germanic” verbalizations. Here the verb “outen” means “to turn out”. The adjective and noun are used in reverse order from other forms of Standard English.

“The owner says he’ll pay me ten dollars a day if I eat myself, but just five dollars if he eats me.”

Explanation: No, there’s no cannibalism here! The worker will get ten dollars a day for providing his own meals, but five dollars a day if the owner has to provide the worker’s food. (Whew! I’m glad we cleared that one up!)

“He’s a pretty good man yet, ain’t not?”
Explanation: He’s a pretty good man (provider), isn’t he? (a tag question form)

Use of Specialized Vocabulary

Addition of specialized, but “local” vocabulary is also quite commonly done as demonstrated in these examples.

“Shall I put the candy in a toot?” (A “toot” is a paper bag.)

When talking about that fact that his father or grandfather is sick a child might say:
“Pop ain’t so good; his eatin’s gone away and he don’t look so good in the face, either.”

Speaking about his son’s difficulties in school a father could be heard to express the following sentiments: “My son ain’t dumb. It ain’t that he can’t learn, it’s just that after he learns it, he forgets it.”

If you don’t speak “Pennsylvania Dutch” in one of its multiple forms, they just might say of you: “You don’t make yourself out so good. You talk so fancy like a body can’t understand you.”

In talking about someone who doesn’t read aloud well, at a meeting or in school for example, people might say something like: “When he gets up to read he gets befuddled.”

Or how about this amusing little observation of another person’s speech: “Don’t talk so quick, it runs together too much when I think.”

Pennsylvania Dutch Proverbs

Some interesting Pennsylvania Dutch proverbs include these offerings:

“Kissin’ wears out, cooking don’t”

“No woman can be happy with less than seven to cook for”

“A plump wife and a big barn never did any man harm”

“He who has a secret dare not tell it to his wife”

“Ve get too soon oldt, und too late schmart”

The Keystone State

In this region of the “Keystone state” as Pennsylvania is monickered, this variety of is often called “Ferhoodled English” by the Pennsylvania Dutch themselves and by local “Outlanders”. Famous for their frugal lifestyle and natural, delicious farm-fresh cooking, the Amish and other sects contribute to the tourism of the state. Hundreds of thousands of visitors come to sample the crafts, food and “peculiar” language this austere people. It is but yet another of the many continually developing varieties of English as a global language.

6 Ways to Guarantee Your Website Will Fail (and how to fix them)

1. Your website is an electronic brochure 2. Can’t be found in Google 3. Was last updated when it was created 4. Is organised how you want it organised 5. Is missing what your audience wants 6. Is home grown, and looks like it!

You’ve invested money and time into making your website what it is today, but you’re just not seeing the results. If any of the above applies to you then you need to fix it, and fast.

The six issues above require some explanation: 1. When someone comes to your website, they can only do one of four things. They can act on something, buy something, click on something or view something. By only having an online brochure you are really only addressing 25% of the capability of your website. 2. Being found in Google is now the yard stick by which people judge the success of your site, in fact if you can appear in the top ten then your audience see this as an implicit recommendation by Google that you site is one of the best. 3. “Last Updated: 24 May 2001″ does not attract visitors and actually shows disrespect towards people visiting your site. Are you telling me that absolutely nothing about your business/people/products has changed in over four years! 4. At first glance this issue might sound reversed, however building a site how YOU want it organised is flawed. The issue you are dealing with is ‘organisational familiarity’. You know how your business is organised, your customers do not, and they can’t be expected to know either. You might have a sales department, a marketing department, a production department, and a research department. The worst thing you could do is build a website with the main navigation consisting of Home, Sales, Marketing, Production, and Research. Your audience shouldn’t have to know about your business structure just to buy something from you. 5. Over the years you have no doubt built a list (albeit in your head) of issues that your customers face, questions about your product/service, things you do better than your competition, or common objections to buying your product. This is invaluable information that is typically completely missing from most sites, and it really is what your audience is looking for, especially if they are buying from you without ever having spoken to you in person. 6. FrontPage is a great tool; to be honest I use it sometimes too. But I do not use it to make a decision on the look and feel for the sites that I build. A FrontPage theme does not make a great website. You need professional design, consistency in style, and a site conducive to getting your message across.

You can fix it by following these simple steps. Research, Restructure and Refine.

Research

This is one of the most overlooked steps in building a website and is incredibly important. You can cover this off very quickly however by looking at what your competition is doing, thinking about what your customers are asking for, and finding out what the most common issues people are having with your product after purchasing from you. During this process you should generate a list of the types of people that visit your website. The automatic answer is of course “customers” but this is not correct. You might home business owners, soccer moms, students, or an accountant who works for an SME just to name a few. If you can create a list of about the top 5 then this is a great start.

Restructure. Restructuring sounds like a big job, however with a good content management system you should be fine. Without a content management system then you are up for considerable effort, so be prepared.

Here’s the key to getting this right! This is the BIG SECRET to building a great site that will actually help you achieve results.

Draw up a table with six columns, and put the following headings at the top of each column; Who, What, How, Why, When, Wake.

Who - this is generated from the list you developed in step 1. Each row in your table should be started with one of audience types you identified above. What - For each audience type you need to identify what they are actually looking for on your site. How - How are they going to find your site? Is this type of person someone who relies on referrals from friends, search engines, advertising or a notice at the local mall? Why - This is an evaluation process that these type of people will go through. What about your product/service will be important to them? Price, geographic location, your reputation, or that you have a payment plan? When - This is not a date or time, this has more to do with ‘under what circumstances will they buy’. You need to establish what will actually move them to make the purchase. Wake - After the sale (in the wake of the sale) how will you keep this type of person in touch with you?

Here’s an example: Who: Home business owner. What: They need something cheap, practical and easy. How: Referral and Local community bulletin boards. Why: Price. When: When they have confidence that the money they will spend will do the job. Wake: Monthly Newsletter

Having completed this exercise you will now have a roadmap to follow when building the content for your site and how it should be structured by looking for commonality in your table. If you find that you have a common ‘how’ or ‘why’ then you should probably target parts of your navigation to address this.

Refine

Remember the six key elements that I stated at the beginning of this article? Here they are again: 1. Your website is an electronic brochure 2. Can’t be found in Google 3. Was last updated when it was created 4. Is organised how you want it organised 5. Is missing what your audience wants 6. Is home grown, and looks like it!

Refining is all about identifying how you measure the change in your website’s performance. Having made many changes you want to make sure that it has not all been in vein, or more importantly you may still have issues to be addressed if you are not seeing the performance you might expect.

Your site should now be anything but an electronic brochure. It should have rich captivating information that people actually want to read, and be targeted towards particular audiences that you know will visit your site.

You should be able to visit googlerankings.com to see whether you appear in Google. Remember that one of the key elements Google uses to identify a good website is the depth and breadth of the content. If you have valuable information in the right quantities then getting into Google should happen automatically. If you still can’t be found using the keywords you want then I would suggest you visit the American Marketing Association’s website (marketingpower.com) and invest some time in their pre-recorded webcasts, they’re free!

You need to keep your site up to date; a week should not go by without some sort of modification to the content or structure. This is another measure search engines use to evaluate the ranking your site gets in search results.

Finally I would suggest you need to make sure your site looks professional, and one of the best ways you can do this is by asking your customers for their honest opinion. There are thousands of designers just waiting for the opportunity to give you a great looking site, however you can also get some exceptional designs from template sites (like templatemonster.com) for a reasonable fee.

Remember that there is no mystery to making a great website. All you need is quality information that people are looking for and that is easy to find.
