Kanye West Music: What is His Deal Behind Late Registration?

Ka-ha-hanye! The latest Kanye West music release, Late Registration, follow-up to the oppositely titled, The College Dropout, has Kanye going in exactly that, an opposite direction in everything, except credibility. That part’s intact.

It’s getting tougher and tougher, as opposed to the 90’s and even decades preceding, to place an artist strictly in a subgenre of a genre. Yes, Kanye West music is obviously in the hip-hop genre. But what type of subgenre does he really fall in? I mean, he does speak for “the people”, in particularly America’s African-American population, making the general population at large become aware of the crises that his brothers and sisters are going through. If not obvious from his music, it is obvious off the stage, regarding his recent opinion of U.S. President George Bush.

So what would that subgenre be? Political rap? “Folk-rap”? “Socioneconomic rap”? Can’t really think of many others…

But here’s some accurate thoughts on the subject. Kanye West music has socioenomical, and political influences. This aspect of his music is quite intact even through his latest release, Late Registration. Of the interesting approaches that he takes with this record is the anomosity that “brothers” may feel when one of their own “graduates” from their clan and “leaves” them.

Background tracks are gallore throughout both West’s releases. The latest turn on Late, however, regarding the overall look and feel music-wise, is more raw and vibrant than its predecessor.

Music patterns of the late 60’s and 70’s; for example, Major7 to “minor”7 shifts, horn orchestra sections; occupy much of the background of Kanye West music on his current release. The first several tracks are vibrant in even another more current way, with more spicing of techno in the bass.

The College Dropout was a big pleaser to both fans and critic alike. Late Registration, which keeps a great distance away from a traditional sophomore slump (interesting how we don’t see many of these anymore), should have no problem in similar pleasing, or even more, on most aspects.

While The college Dropout had several moments in it, for example strong stand-out tracks and singles, or even “what-the-****- was-that?!” moment of lyrics, there are less tracks on Late Registration that appear to stick out like a sore thumb. Don’t get me wrong, it is still an excellent record, although as a whole, not because of just several spiky moments of ingenius Kanye West music.

The whole album is ingenius, made by a genius.

On a final note, due to overwhelming publicity - on and off stage; planned and incidental - there will virtually be no shortage of this release offline or online. It will set you back between $10-15, however, depending on where you buy it. Although the maximum price to download Late will be about $12 note that if you acquire them online, and if their are other releases from Kanye (even other than The College Dropout that you still haven’t checked) you’ll save money downloading ALL music from Kanye West, possibly paying no more than what you would for just Late Registration.

To find out reputable reputable digital music downloads services where you can save money this way, then read further as to where Kanye West music is available.

All-in-all, Kanye West, is definitely moving forward in his carrier with Late Registration, even though it may appear that he is going backward with the album title.

Helping someone who has a stammer

How many fluent people ever consider what life is like for somebody with a stammer?

Going through life with a stammer is quite difficult, and at times the stammerer would appreciate a little more compasion.

After overcoming a stammer myself, I asked some of my friends, how they thought life was like, having a severe stammer. I had quite a few different responses, some of which annoyed me.

Jim said:

“I always thought that you felt a bit sorry for yourself and you made out that your stammer was some huge disasterous problem. It’s not like you couldn’t talk at all, is it?

I also felt at times that you lacked courage, for example always asking Tony to order your drinks for you.”

Paul then gave his opinion:

“I found it quite funny that at times you would be talking really well, but within a few minutes you couldn’t get a word out.”

Ashley joined in:

“I felt a bit sorry for you, seeing you struggle, was quite painful to watch.”- This was a better comment!

Nigel, another friend:

“I am glad that I don’t stammer, but what I think you needed to understand was that you were not the only one with issues and problems. I am extremely impressed that you have managed to overcome it though.”

I was annoyed mostly by the comments from Jim, and responded:

“So you think to have a stammer is not that bad then Jim? OK, I challenge you to go up to the bar and order a pint of lager, but when you order it I want you to stammer on some of the words.”

I showed him how I wanted him to say the order, when to stammer etc. I then said:

“After you have stammered on the words, I want you to see how it feels and to experience the way people look at you. You may then understand a little bit more of what I went through.”

Jim declined this challenge, even after a severe amount of prompting and teasing from different members of our group.

Having a stammer is not nice and when someone who has a stammer seeks help, please offer them your full support.

I was quite fortunate in that some of my friends did go to the bar for me and my parents were quite prepared to make certain phone calls, like phoning the doctors and the car insurance.

At other periods in my life though, other people did make fun of me and at times I would become very depressed and withdrawn and would wonder why it was me who had a stammer.

The New Music Marketing Model for 21st Century

A year ago, I wrote a passionate article on the merits of charging $15 when you sell your CDs. Some of my reasonings included: It’s tough for indie musicians and you have a good music, so don’t short-change yourself; you can always discount the CD for special reasons (2-for-1 special); and, the “high” sales prices also includes your various expenses. I made a few addendums, but that’s the gist of it.

But now, if you head over to http://mp3.com/thebards and check out the Brobdingnagian Bards page at MP3.com, you’ll notice something kinda hypocritical…none of our CDs are priced at $15! What gives??

Well first let me say, yes, I do still believe in a $15.00 sales price for many artists. Certainly, it works best for folk artists, and singer/songwriter types. But my reason is not hypocrisy it is a dramatic change in our marketing plan.

You see, when we started out, I knew that the only “real” income available to indie musicians comes from CD sales and merchandising since royalties from ASCAP and BMI are a joke. So our plan was to record every 6 months or less and put out new material. By then end of last summer the indie process was leaving us drained, and we were thinking we overextended. Then along comes MP3.com.

One of the things I’ve been raving about for the past few months is that MP3.com offers a new marketing model by offering “royalties” for listens to your music. And if you’re getting paid from people listening to your music. Then it needs to be readily available right?

Well, we’ve followed the footsteps of many of the top MP3.com artists and have about 40-50 tracks available on our site and more are coming every week. In doing so, we make a solid $20 a day from our site.

Now with each listen, the songs are tracked on MP3.com on their music charts. You sell a CD, the songs on that CD will rocket up the charts. So you want the CDs to sell, because higher charting equals higher payback. Thus, our low price on MP3.com.

Now think for a second. If you have 40 songs on your site like the Hillbilly Hellcats, you’re most likely going to make your 15 unique listens because your songs are located all over the charts. There are plenty of songs to choose from. Thus the new marketing model no longer relies on CD sales of $15.00, but listens. When you realize that you open yourself up to a whole slew of, in my opinion, simple marketing tactics that will make you more money from listens than selling CDs from your website.

I know this all seems simplistic, but the vast reality is most artists on MP3.com are still running their band with an older marketing model that does not yield the highest payback. So think about that for a bit, and next week, I have a guest writer who will give you an exciting promotional idea that could send your listens over the top. Then the week following that, I’m going to betray my secret that has my song “Tolkien” at #35 on all MP3.com…

Stay tuned. Same bard time. Same bard channel!

How to Create Backing Tracks If You Don’t Play All the Instruments… or Any

Congratulations! Your singing has become amazing, and it’s time the world knew. You’ve also written some songs that are just kick you-know-what. They need to be recorded, MP3ed and put on the net ASAP. But you’ve got two problems. First, you can’t afford a studio, let alone a band for all this stuff. Second, you don’t play all, or any, of the instruments.

Well there is good news. With a deft combination of the internet and today’s software, you can do wonders. While it’s never going to be the same as a true band in a real studio, which you had better hire for that big record company showcase, you can still create great backing tracks.

First, repeat after me. “I love MIDI.” Thank you.

MIDI, to refresh your memory, is like sheet music for a pianist. The paper itself makes no noises, but the pianist gets all the information he needs from it to let us hear Beethoven (especially if the music is also Beethoven!). In your computer set up, the MIDI file is the sheet music, the MIDI sequencer or playback program is the pianist, and your computer’s sound card and synthesizer are the piano. That’s all you need!

Before we get started, I’ll mention the ultimate cover song shortcut - the Internet! There are tons of great MIDI files of almost every piece of popular music out there. All you have to do is find them. If you can’t, or you’ve got your own material, read on. Be legal, though!

If You Play Keyboard or Guitar Well

First, thank your parents for the lessons. Then, get your hands on a sequencer program and record your tracks. Using MIDI, you can choose the instrument sound for everything - all you need to do is input the notes. For drums, you can either record them from your keyboard or use a plug-in drum machine. If you choose to record them, a quick way to do it is to record a couple of measures and then copy/paste to fill out the song. But don’t forget to put in some drum fills!

If Your Playing Is Limited to Little or Not at All

For you there are wonderful programs, like Band in a Box and Jammer, to create backing tracks. They are very stylish, meaning, they function in styles. You must, at the very least, know the chords for your song. You simply enter the chords, choose the appropriate musical style, and click a button called “compose” (or some reasonable facsimile). Before you can say “Holy guacamole, Batman,” your music is playing. The drawback here is that your band will sound canned. And well it should, for it is! But, have no fear, there are ways to mitigate that quite well.

Making it Human

Best thing? Play what you can, at least the melody. That, in and of itself, will help tremendously, as it’s no longer just a band style playing chord progressions.

Next up, record a counterpoint. Counterpoints make ordinary songs exciting. They are secondary melodies that complement the main melody. They usually have a slightly different rhythm, and fill in where the melody has breaks. A great example is in the song “The Winner Takes It All,” by Abba. Listen to the theme that is always playing underneath the melody - it really drives the song.

Another thing you can do to put life into your tracks is to customize the style. Depending on how good you are with your software and its capabilities, you can create your own riffs and mix them into the song. Also, vary similar styles throughout the song to break the monotony. And, again, don’t underestimate drum fills!

Creative use of layering is a very effective technique. When all the tracks play all the time, it can be very boring. Wait to bring in some instruments till later in the song. That creates a “building” feel. Then, at some point towards the end, take them out again briefly to create a “break” or “bridge”. When you bring them back, it is very powerful.

Finally, don’t allow any perfection. Yes, you read that correctly. If your music is perfectly aligned rhythmically, it will sound artificial. Live musicians are never precisely on the beat. Almost all programs have a “humanize” function which corrects this automatically. Otherwise, take the time and slide some notes in the piano roll editor window. If you need quantize (rhythm correction) on the recorded tracks, set it to less than 100%.

When you’ve got your MIDI file, there are two ways to convert it to audio (wav, mp3) for CD burning. The quicker way is with a dedicated program that renders wave files from MIDI files directly. Most software synthesizer programs that have a stand-alone playback feature can do this. Otherwise, open an audio recording program, play the MIDI file, and simultaneously record the output. Make sure your audio recorder is set to receive from the correct input.

If You Play Nothing, and Don’t Know Chords or Theory or Anything

Guess what? You are the one who should hire a musician. Yes, I know that some programs will offer both a chord progression composer and even a melody composer. All you would need to do is choose the style. If you are considering going this route, I have one request for you.

PLEASE DON’T!

Sorry to yell, but think about this. The melody is composed by a computer, the chords are composed by a computer, the band is composed by a computer. It is music that is completely composed by a computer. Oh my gosh! How revolting is that?

No, my friend, hire a qualified musician. You sing the song to them, they create the magic. Do not sell yourself short. Your song is important — it’s part of you! Show it the greatest respect and make it as beautiful as you can.

Leaflet Advertising a Smart Way to Promote Your Business during the Recession. How to Come through the Gloom

Using leaflet distribution services are some of the most redeeming means to gain that xfactor over your contenders. How? Direct Mailing is the answer. By employing a constant leaflet distribution promotion you can reach utmost
exposure via the letterbox. Its a very over looked advertising scheme which turns very well, that is ofcourse is using leaflet distribution services

If your merchandise is made to appeal to a worldwide market place and you want to focalize on a really specific field, door to door promotion is a great, inexpensive way of achieving your direct market.

But certain in the preparation of your leaflet distribution campaigns as this is essential if you are to make the most of your investment.

Leaflet distribution allows you to give specified answer from targeted groups of clients. It’s a particularly
useful instrument for small business organisations because it allows you to focus limited resources where they are most probably to bring forth result and measure the success of campaigns accurately by examining answers. Just remember that the outcomes of leaflet distributoin aren’t assured. A badly planned or aimed adverting campaign will be a waste of hard earned cash

There are a number of other methods in which leaflet distribution has been utilised in a semipolitical capacity. Some of these reasons are as follows. One of the most everyday purposes of leaflet distribution is to provide people with information to counter data that has been distributed by the opposition. The brochures can also be applied to endanger people with an assault. This is particularly probably in engagements in which armies can inform enemy parades that they will occupy if no action is made. The leaflets in war situations are often used to encourage the opposition to surrender and if how to go about surrendering without facilitating a retaliation.

If you have made up your mind that a leaflet distribution will be a right form of advertisement in order to bring in some much required possible patronage, then you need to set about the job of selecting the most flushed company to conduct the promotion for you.

On That Poin there are alot of factors to be looked at when doing this, these are key in obtaining the greatest effects from your campaign.

You need to consider where you are going to aim your leaflets and the coverage and incursion that you want to attain. If you are just thinking of a limited distribution in the localised area, it may be provident to select a small localised company who just handle the small-scale promotions in one region. They are quite likely to be cost effective, and have lower lead times. Accountability may be a problem if things do not go according to plan, so this demands to be considered against the amount of financial spending.

Celebrity Culture

Celebrity Culture

Right now and more than ever, America has fully contracted celebrity obsession and has fostered this to virtually become a culture.

Just decades ago, before the explosion of today’s powerful media, top-selling albums, blockbuster movies, and high-rating TV shows made celebrities. Contrast this nearly bygone trend with that of today and anyone can see that numerous celebrities are just people who are famous for being famous.

Paris Hilton, for example, has little more to her name than a famous surname and a sex tape. Rob and Amber Mariano, ordinary civilians no more, did not invent anything, but they surely were power-tripping backstabbers in Survivor: All Stars. The late John F. Kennedy Jr. is more famous for being the handsome son of a former president than a talented lawyer.

Granted, a celebrity in question may be truly stellar. There comes a time though when people forget what made the star famous in the first place, and instead zero in on the star’s foibles off-camera. Multi-platinum singer Britney Spears is more famous now for her rehab stints than her albums.

Anyone who can sustain worldwide interest in his private life today is a celebrity, no doubt about that. People want to diminish that certain sense of otherness in a star; they want to see who the star really is beneath the perfection. The payback comes when the prier unearths a familiar persona, a common denominator.

Expediting the rise of celebrity culture are the ongoing innovations in media and technology. Nowadays, data and images are spread easily through the Internet and television. Celebrity culture will show no signs of waning so long as People, Star, Us, and The National Enquirer are in circulation or television shows like Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, and Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous still flicker on the screen.
